Contemplating contemplation. The ultimate procrastination...

Here I sit, May 2nd 2010 and I am awaiting a decision on my grad school application at UC Davis. In the meantime I have considered and reconsidered applying to Pace University and Fordham University both in New York City. I've always had a strong urge to move to the city. Ever since I could remember that was my ultimate destination. The first time I ever went to the city was in 2005 on a school sponsored event. I stayed in the Double Tree in times square, visited a bunch of PR agencies and hung out. I had the time of my life, did some crazy/questionable things but all in all it was a good experience. My view of the city at that point didn't waver in any way. In subsequent visits, however, I've grown to both love and hate the city. The noise, the smell, the stores, the people, are all on my list of not so high points of being in the Big Apple. The vast number of things to do is the best part about being there, as is the convenience of everything.

Where was I going w/ this? Oh right, going to school and living there. I just found out a friend of mine is moving to Upstate New York to work so I'm now pulled even more toward spending some time in the city. As they say, you only live once. I just need to actually buckle down and finish these apps as soon as possible. Maybe this is my way of trying to push myself to finally get this done. Hopefully it works...

In other news, I started a Bucket List. Excited. I've been slacking on my work outs. Sucks. I'm also thinking of starting a Tumblr. (Yes another social networking site.) Sue me!

Dexter Update

Its been a while since I posted so I wanted to give a little update on the book Im reading. So far I am a little over halfway through the first Dexter book and it is very similar to the series, but enjoyable nonetheless. I am definitely enjoying seeing a little more into Dexter's mind as well. Ive been reading about a week and a half now. Its an easy read so check it out if you like the show.

Got a Secret...

...Can you keep it, swear this one you'll save. Better lock it in your pocket. Taking this one to the grave."

If you are a fan of Dexter then you might know that lyric. If not then you should definitely jump on that. Great show and hopefully even better book series. My next venture will be to start reading the Dexter series. Hopefully I will pick up the first book, "Darkly Dreaming Dexter," this weekend. There are currently four books in the series with another on the way. I fell in love with the TV series (on Showtime) about a year and a half ago and decided I'd like to know a little bit more about Dex. Until then here is the song "Secret" by The Pierces that played during the promo commercials in 2008. It's a little dark, but I love it!

GMAT prep and other such nonsense....

I haven't taken a standardized test since the SAT in 2001 and man did it show! I have been practicing to take the Graduate Management Admissions Test since about October and finally did it on Friday (Jan 15th). Since I haven't taken a math course since my sophomore year of college I found it rather difficult to reteach myself many of the concepts. I was a little bummed about the score I got (Not official until I receive my score report), but I also wasn't so disappointed that my goals have shifted. I still want the same thing. To move to Cali by the end of the year, at least for a year or two and have that experience. I'm still applying to schools, a little less optimistic about getting into them lol, but I'm still motivated.

Some good news. I was asked to go back a job I had in Princeton two years ago. The best job I've ever had in all honesty. I'm still trying to figure out how that will fit into my plans and if it's doable but I am excited about the chance. Update on that soon!

Have a good one :)

"Aha" Moment... of sorts

With the passing of 2009, I find that my focus has been a little bit lax lately. Not really motivated to do anything but the same old mundane things. SO with that feeling and 2010 beginning as a motivation I have decided to really make this year count.

Yeah, I know people say this all the time. new Years resolutions and all of that but I have never been that type of a person. I have a short list of very doable goals that I plan on concurring before the year is up. None of which are cooking related, but I guess I could throw a couple in for good measure (At least those I know I'll do lol).

First on my list?

Finish my Grad school Apps. My GMAT test is in less that two weeks and applications are due right around February 1. By the time my next blog is completed so will these apps!

Second Goal:
Kind of woven throughout - Be more outgoing

I want to be a little more outgoing. I'm not shy around family and friends but as soon as people I'm not too familiar w/ come along I get uncomfortable and start to watch my words. That could be a good thing, but generally it just makes people think I'm standoffish or snobby. Not cool.

I also want to spend more time w/ friends.

Third Goal:
Read more books than I did in 2009.

I read quite a few good books last year but I want to improve on that, and add in some non-fiction industry related ones. Any suggestions? shot them my way. Im most interested in the Entertainment industry as well as Business and Hospitality/Restaurateur-ness (is that a word? It is now). I read about 9 books so I'm shooting for 10 or more.

Fourth Goal:
Learn Guitar.

This is my fun goal for the year. I got a guitar for Christmas and It's already a challenge but I welcome it w/ open arms. Im looking for a digital tuner now so I can really dive in.

More goals will be added as I think of them, but this is a good start I think. Wish me luck!

What to Blog about?

I have a few ideas right now on what to blog about, some of wich requires a little research. Kind of just wanna put my thoughts down and see what I come up with.

* Some simple recipes...
* Unmarried Black professional women. Why?
* Wrongful Incarceration. How much is not enough?

I'll probably blog on all topics at some point but for now let me stew on these a little.

Best Dessert EVARRR!

Okay it may not be the best ever but it's pretty close. My dad told me about this after he saw it on Dr. Oz's show. I was skeptical at first but I'm thinking this will now be in my arsenal for a long time.

All you need is Graham Crackers and cool whip, the low-fat/light ones preferably.

Step 1: Break Graham in half so you have two squares

Step 2: Scoop a dollop of Cool Whip onto one graham half.

Step 3: place second half on top

Step 4: Freeze for a couple of hours

Step 5: EAT! (It tastes like an ice cream sandwich!)

Those are the instructions they gave on the show but when I bought my Cool Whip I put it in the freezer as soon as I got home. I haven't tried it the other way yet, but freezing the cool whip first seems to work well too.

If you don't love this thing then you have to be crazy! I have to stop myself from continuing to eat them. Ive had 3 in 2 days already. Extra workout time tomorrow :)
